Many of the people currently fleeing the Ukraine are passing through train stations. In Germany, more than a hundred stations have an ecumenical Bahnhofs Mission dedicated to helping travellers in distress. The first one started up in Berlin in 1894, with more and more popping up in major stations in subsequent years. Not being big on religious organizations, the Nazis banned them, but they were reinstated after WW II and are still going strong today.
