Question: Why are American elections held on the first Tuesday in November?
Answer: Because it was deemed the most likely date on which to get people out to vote. A lot of the electorate were originally farmers, and a Tuesday wouldn’t interfere with market days (Wednesdays) or Sunday church attendance, and November wouldn’t interfere with spring planting or summer/autumn harvests.
