Still on the subject of coins, there is a noticeable difference between English coins minted before the English Civil Wars & those minted after, during of the Commonwealth period. The difference being that Commonwealth currency didn’t have the image of a king’s head on it. (Although devotees of Oliver Cromwell – who was king in all but name – did design some never-circulated coins with Old Noll’s noggin on them.)
