Today, people throughout France will be celebrating the Storming of the Bastille and the start of that country’s revolution. The names of several people associated with said revolution have definitely ‘gone down in history’, but so has that of the fictional Sir Percy Blakeney (a.k.a. The Scarlet Pimpernel), the dashing English peer who spiriting many a doomed aristocrat to safety in the course of more than a dozen books and a couple of television series and movies. His creator, Emma Magdolna Rozália Mária Jozefa Borbála Orczy de Orci, was born on September 23rd, 1865 in Tarnaörs, Hungary. Though she obviously had a good number of names at her disposal, she mostly stuck with Emma.
