One way to connect modern kids to history is to call their attention to events that happened in the past that are still going on today, and ask their opinions as to whether this is good or bad, should still be going on or shouldn’t still be going on, and why they think this is. Do keep kids’ ages in mind, however. Some topics, like the one below, are not for pre-teens.
