Dad in Scotland Circa 1923

The above photo was taken in Scotland around 1922 or 1923. It is of my paternal grandmother and eight of her eleven children. One of those children is my father, who, if he were still alive, would have been one hundred years old today. Which one, we’re not sure, because the photo did not come into our possession until after Dad, and everyone else pictured, had passed away. We think he’s the blond kid at the far right, but don’t know for certain. We only have one other photo of him as a child, and since it’s a bit grainy, it’s not much help for comparison. We got the photo from my Uncle Charlie, now 87, but he was the youngest of the family, and hadn’t even been born when it was taken, so he wasn’t able to clarify who is who among the boys. (The girls weren’t a problem, as there were only two of them and they weren’t close as close in age as Dad and his brothers). I’m sure photo albums in every land have photos with no indication underneath or on the back as to who is in them. That makes it hard to preserve family history once older generations are no longer around, so even if you and your kids know the people in all your current photos, it might be a good idea to do some kind of names and date labelling for the sake of their descendants. And ascertain the identity of people in any old photos you’re not sure of, while there are still people to ask.
