Question: Who was Jack the Ripper’s first victim?
Answer: Mary Ann Nichols, who was killed August 31st, 1888 in the East End of London (Buck’s Row, Whitechapel). The serial killer who would become known as Jack the Ripper because of his brutal mutilations of his victims’ bodies went on to kill four more women until the killings that followed his particular pattern suddenly stopped with the murder of Mary Kelly on November 7th. There was much speculation as to why the killings stopped, the most common being that something happened to him. Also known as ‘Leather Apron’, Jack the Ripper actual identity was never uncovered, and the files on him were closed in 1892.
