Japanese aeroplanes attacked the U.S.A.’s naval base in Hawaii around 8 a.m. on December 7th, 1941. The two-hour assault resulted in the destruction of, or damage to, most of the ships and aircraft there, the deaths of over two thousand soldiers and sailors, and the wounding of a thousand more. The next day, the U.S. Congress approved President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s declaration of war against Japan, which led to Japan’s allies, Germany and Italy, declaring war on the United States.
Yes, I asked my husband what the date was today and he answered that it was Pearl Harbour Day. He was born in Hawaii. I didn’t realize it happened in December. A sad event in history.
