Who’s fifty? Dr. Who, that’s who. Or rather, the show is. Fans of the now famous Time Lord know the good Doctor is centuries older than that.
The original series debuted on November 23rd, 1963, and my friends and I took to it right away. By the second episode we were making TARDISes out of cardboard boxes, ambushing each other with cries of, “I am a Dalek!” and ignoring parental suggestions that we find something better to watch than “that rubbish”. (There were only two channels in those days and whatever aired on the other one around five o’clock on Saturdays simply didn’t compare.)
As a child I revelled in both the history and the sci-fi aspects of this TV series. I’m less passionate about it now, but watching “The Day Of The Doctor” is definitely on today’s agenda.
