I liked this short story by Penny Estellle and think kids will, too. Especially those who, like the central character, are more in tune with sports than history. Billy knows zip about William Tell when he draws his name as the subject of a seventh grade oral report, but figures half an hour surfing the Net will take care of that and free him up for all the weekend activities he has planned. Instead, he has a dream – or is it a dream? Whatever it is, he winds up in fourteenth-century Switzerland and is able to gather the information personally. Filled with humour and a good accounting of the Tell legend, this is a quick, entertaining read for middle graders.
